Setting The Record Straight

We’ve fought for earmark reform. We helped kill a bad Amnesty bill. We ended the ban on offshore drilling. And we’ve fought a pork-laden spending package that will increase our debts to foreign nations like China.

We have pushed our common-sense conservative agenda and been a headache to any of those wishing to extend Washington’s favor factory.

But our opponents will not stay quiet.  We will use this page to unveil their attacks and provide real answers from Senator DeMint or from friends who want to set the record straight.

Over the past few months Senator DeMint has been the target of South Carolina’s leading liberals.

He was slammed by State Representative Gilda Cobb-Hunter and then in a recent op-ed, State Senator Brad Hutto, wrote:

DeMint’s ideas sound good to a dwindling number of true-believers who think tax cuts can solve any problem and that magical forces will repair an economy in disarray without public intervention.

Here is conservative South Carolina State Senator Kevin Bryant’s response which does a great job of setting the record straight with his op-ed:

DeMint a voice of reason

Recently Democrat State Senator Brad Hutto recently penned an article critical of our U.S. Senator Jim DeMint.

In his view, Senator DeMint was wrong to demand that the trillion dollar spending bill liberals rushed through Washington last week would actually work for South Carolina. Missing from this editorial was the steep price South Carolina families would pay.

Thankfully, both Senators DeMint and Graham actually read the thousand page bill and realized it wouldn’t grow the economy, but its real intent was to grow government in Washington instead.

As Senator DeMint said, “This is a trillion dollar mistake that our economy cannot afford at this critical time. There is no free lunch, and every one of the trillion dollars we spend in this bill will be paid by our children and grandchildren. The skyrocketing debt that will follow this spending bill and the new bailouts will lead to inflation, higher interest rates and higher taxes.”

Senator DeMint understands that unsustainable debt, which is soon to approach $12 trillion, will inevitably create inflation and higher interest rates, making it more expensive for South Carolina families to buy a home or purchase food, clothes, and other goods and services.

Instead, Senator DeMint offered a realistic and proven plan that would create 18 million jobs by permanently lowering taxes on all families and businesses. This would allow South Carolina taxpayers to choose how to spend their money on what their family needs, instead of liberals in Washington transferring our money to unions and special interests. Senator DeMint trusts South Carolinians, while Senator Hutto and Democrats are asking us to trust Washington politicians.

The truth is that Senator DeMint has been South Carolina taxpayers’ best ally in Congress and a hero to working families. While other politicians, including too many Republicans, have helped pass wasteful spending for years, Senator DeMint has fought for fiscal responsibility and government reform that is urgently needed. While Washington panicked, Senator DeMint has been a steady voice of reason.

Senator DeMint is right about that spending plan.
It will not help the economy.
What really makes me mad is that no Senator except a few even attempted to read that bill.
Senator DeMint is one of the few that attempted to do that and it is something to commend.

On another point,I am thinking that DeMint’s site, videos and such are the opening round of his 2012 bid.I have been reading lots about DeMint and I really start to think that Senator DeMint would be the right person for 2012

The stupidity of the democratic party never ceases to amaze me! Did any of them take economics in school? Who votes these peolpe in?

Senator DeMint seems to be our last hope to help salvage as much of the a once great economy as possible. Thank you Senator for not giving up and not listening to lies spewed from the mouths of the liberals and the lamestream Media. Keep fighting for us Real Americans and may God bless you!

Demint has a keen knowledge of the consequences that will follow the great spending going on at this very moment. Boost the economy by increasing our debt? I have never heard that to be a good idea. Maybe I should ask for a few million dollars for myself so I can be a help (I would surely spend it!) All joking aside, the assurance of Mr. DeMint’s conservative (and Christian) representation is very nice in this time when short-sighted Democrats are taking over. Thank you for staying consistant to true Christian values, Mr. DeMint, and not wavering in these difficult times.

Right now the most effective way to fix our economy and our country would be to pass The FairTax Plan. Senator DeMint, please become a Co-Sponsor of Bill S. 296 and encourage Lindsey Graham to do the same.

With the hyper convoluted thinking of most Democrats, and many Republicans, we need now more than ever before the character, integrity, and stature of Senator Jim DeMint. There is virtually no other voice in our National Government who will consistantly fight for truth, and governmental accountability than Senator jim DeMint, because there are few like him who have enough guts to do so. We the people of the State of South Carolina owe him our most profound thanks, as well as the obligation of our collective stalwart support for his efforts on our behalf.

Jim DeMint is a true representative of my political beliefs. He is the ONLY South Carolina Senator who represents me and I am proud I voted for him. I wish we had more like him.

What thios country needs is not government paid health care but good paying jobs so people can pay for their own health care. How do we give people good paying jobs? We bring back manufacturing jobs to this country. We start producing our own energy and stop importing it from countries who then use our dollars to sponsor terrorist. Our money in global terms is way overvalued. I leave the reevaluation of our money to someone who is much more qualified than I am. To solve our energy problems we must first DRILL HERE THEN GO NUCLEAR.Countries all over the worlds including the U.s. have hundreds of nuclear plants currently and besides Chernoble there has never been a MAJOR accident. OUR COUNTRY HAS BEEN BRAINWASHED BY THE MEDIA TO FEAR NUCLEAR POWER. In my opinion this propoganda is financed by the oil companies by their funding of the enviromentalists. As thsy say FOLLOW THE MONEY.
