Opposition to Earmarks Keeps Growing

Yesterday, Politico reported on the ever growing opposition to earmarks, pork barrel projects often used to secure votes for bills that increase government spending.

The article highlighted the number of U.S. Senate candidates opposing earmarks in their campaigns.  Senator Jim DeMint was quoted:

“I think almost every Senate candidate [who’s] going to win is going to not ask for earmarks, which means if we don’t have an earmark moratorium in the Senate — at least with Senate Republicans before the election — we will after the election,” said Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), whose amendment to establish an earmark moratorium was crushed by a 29-68 vote last March.
